Romanza
- The Art of the Tenor
Thursday, October 11, 2007
- 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: THe Opera House
Philip Grant, Todd Jang
and Frederik Robert have been identified as "three
talented, young, classically trained lyric tenors
who have separately been delighting audiences
across North America and Europe." These three
brilliant tenors infuse their performances with
their offstage camaraderie, and warm the audience
with their intimacy and humour. Romanza has taken
tenor repertoire to new heights by re-invigorating
opera hits, Italian favourites, popular folksongs
and well-loved ballads with their own irresistible
and original arrangements for the contemporary
audience. Romanza is the real deal. Authentic.
Talented. Genuine. www.romanzamusic.com

Beaver
Valley Concert Society - Bach with a Twist Quartet
Saturday, October 20, 2007
- 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: Grace United Church, 140 Bruce Street,
Thornbury
The Beaver Valley Concert
Society returns for it's eighteenth season with an
eclectic mix of genres, talent and originality.
The first concert, on Saturday, October 20, 2007,
at the Grace United Church in Thornbury, kicks off
with the Bach with a Twist Quartet featuring
well-known jazz musicians, (Mark Thompson,
clarinet; Ch. Cozens, piano; George Kozub, bass;
Tom Jestadt, drums;). Their programme follows the
through line from Bach to Brubeck and back. Spiced
with humour and virtuoso playing, the evening may
well prove that Bach would have been a jazz
maestro had he been alive today.
The second concert, on
November 17, 2007, will feature Caroline
Leonardelli, Harpist, and Julie Nesrallah, Mezzo
Soprano, in a fascinating programme of Debussy,
Faure and Bellini. Two successful solo artists
have come together to create an unusual and
compelling duet of harp and voice - a sweet
resonance for the onset of longer nights.
The third concert, on
April 5, 2008, features the glamourous Madawaska
Quartet. Four women (Sarah Fraser Raff, violin;
Rebecca van der Post, violin; Anna Redekov, viola;
Amy Laing, cello;) weave a magical mix of Verdi,
Dvorak, Puccini, Mozart and others with charm and
vivacity. They bring the experience of six years
of collaboration, touring and musical adventures
to the evening.
The final concert, on May
3, 2008, is entitled 'If Music Be The Food of
Love', performed by Page Two and Friends,
involving instrumentalists and actors in an
interactive programme of readings and music from
Purcell to Sondheim dealing with the eternal theme
of love. Not to be missed! BVCS concerts are held
in the United Church in Thornbury, at 8:00 pm.
Tickets are available at a number of local
outlets, (Crow's Nest in Collingwood
(519-599-7361), Stuff to Read in Meaford
(519-538-1662) and Jessica's Book Nook in
Thornbury (519-599-7361). Tickets cost $25 for a
single performance (students $15). Season tickets
for the four concert series are offered at
substantial savings -- $80 for adults, $70 for
seniors, $40 for students. There is also a family
rate of $170, plus a special group rate of $20 per
person (for parties of 10 or more). For
